Note: The Type-C Pro Hub from Satechi is compatible with the following models: 2020/2019/2018/2017/2016 MacBook Pro and 2020/2018 MacBook Air.

Anyone who opts for a MacBook Pro knows the advantages of such a work device. And to avoid a restriction in everyday life caused by the USB-C connections, you opt for a USB-C hub. The Type-C Pro hub from Satechi was specially developed for the MacBook Pro and offers the best compatibility and a wide variety of connections. We would like to introduce you to the Type-C Pro Hub in our test report and explain its functions to you, among other things.

Those who can describe themselves as intensive users and not only have to cope with simple work tasks on their MacBook Pro will often find themselves in situations where a reliable hub is essential. Be it data transfers from USB-A devices or the copying of the recorded pictures or videos from the SD card. A micro SD card is also used here and there. Those who work productively can also use an external monitor – HDMI should therefore also be on board.

As you often see on a normal working day, a Type-C hub with a wide variety of connections is necessary in order not to be restricted in your work and still be able to enjoy the high transfer speeds of USB-C on the MacBook Pro. Satechi did a great job here and developed the Type-C Pro Hub. Like us, Apple users will immediately love the simple design and the perfectly matched Apple color “space gray”. The first look is very consistent.

Satechi Type-C Pro Hub – all connectivity options

The design of the Satechi Type-C Pro Hub is really very successful and is fun to touch. Of course, this also speaks for the quality of the material and the workmanship. The Apple gadget looks robust and of high quality . Plugged into the left side of the MacBook Pro, it can already be used. It couldn’t be more uncomplicated, because you can use both left or right USB ports of the Apple MacBook Pro at the same time. And what do we get now? What connections does the Type-C Pro Hub offer us? We would like to list them for you:

  • HDMI video output – 1080p at 60ps and even 4K at 30fps
  • Thunderbolt 3 – up to 5K or 2 x 4K video at 60fps and up to 40Gb / s data transfer
  • 2 x USB 3.0 with 5Gb / s data transfer
  • USB-C with 5Gb / s data transfer
  • SD card slot with 104Mb / s
  • Micro SD card slot with 104Mb / s

Compact companion for every professional and work situation

The list describes the connections from top to bottom. The side connections are chosen favorably and allow HDMI, for example, to be brought into front of the head. In this way, the HDMI cable can conveniently be led directly towards the external display. All connections are easily accessible and leave enough space for each other in the respective port since they are not too close together. The dimensions are  11.4 x 2.8 x 1 centimeters ; The Satechi Type-C Pro Hub weighs 40 grams and is therefore pleasantly light.

Premium USB-C hub in the everyday test – does Satechi convince with its Apple accessories?

The Satechi USB-C hub is really very compact and light . So it always creates a place in the backpack, laptop bag or similar transport bag – no problem at all during our test. We also like the Apple-typical design , which allows the attached Type-C Pro Hub to merge well with the design of the MacBook Pro. The brushed aluminum design is simply convincing. There is nothing wrong with here.

The transfer speed was excellent at all times. The values of the manufacturer could even be exceeded in some cases. In any case, we were able to confirm the specified manufacturer’s information with a reasonable tolerance. No annoying installation of drivers – just plug in and go! The plug-and-play principle plays its part here and quickly turns the hub into a best friend when it comes to being productive. In fact, we couldn’t find any criticisms; the Satechi product does its job well. The full length of the Satechi Type-C Pro Hub convinced us. We have already presented these other  MacBook gadgets for you .

Is that not enough for you? Would you like to connect two HDMI monitors to your Macbook Pro and not infrequently use two SD cards from your cameras? Satechi makes it easy for you and shows the use of two Type-C Pro Hubs with the product image below.
