Review: Xiaomi Mi 11

Xiaomi Mi 11 Mi 11 makes an excellent first impression. From the contents of the box, through execution, action, and ending with the quality of the photos.

Today I invite you to our short first impressions, which we will complete after full tests  Xiaomi Mi 11. It should also be noted that at the time of writing this text, we do not know the price yet, Xiaomi representatives only assured us that it would be “attractive”. On February 25 we will see if we understand the meaning of the word similarly.

How do we rate design?

The phone should please. The frames around the display are thin, and the island with the cameras on the back has a rather original shape. It’s kind of composed of two parts, so Mi 11 it’s hard to go wrong with any other device. The backs are matte, covered with Gorilla Glass 6 and in a blue color, changing the shade depending on the angle of the light, they look amazing. Unfortunately, they collect fingerprints quite a lot. Fortunately, the box has a transparent silicone case, so you can safely take care of the phone and still enjoy its color.

Of course, we have a USB-C input and two branded speakers Harman Kardon. They sound great, clean even at maximum settings, with good tonal separation. We haven’t tested the sound on Bluetooth headphones yet, and we haven’t had the opportunity to check the quality of calls. Unfortunately, there is no mini-jack input in the phone. There is also no slot for a memory card, Mi 11 it is instead a dualsim. It also has an infrared LED for controlling home appliances.

The back is slightly curved to the sides, thanks to which, despite the very large dimensions – 164.3 x 74.6 x 8.56 mm, the smartphone fits very well in the hand. The weight of 196 g is also comfortable for this size.

What do we think about the display?

Panel Mi 11 made in AMOLED technology, has a diagonal of 6.81 inches, WQHD + resolution 1440 x 3200 pixels, 515 ppi and HDR10 + support. It can be refreshed even at 120 Hz. This is an adaptive refresh, so the phone adjusts it itself depending on the activities we perform and thus saves the battery. When browsing pages or switching between applications, everything was incredibly smooth. The resolution can also be lowered in the settings from WQHD + to FHD +. The viewing angles are perfect, as are the colors. The maximum brightness can be increased to 1500 nits, thanks to which we will not have problems with visibility in full sun. The minimum brightness is also very good. The display is covered with the latest Gorilla Glass Victus glass and is not flat, the sides are slightly rounded.

We haven’t tested the fingerprint reader or the facial recognition yet. There is no notification LED on the phone, but it is configurable Always on Display, where we can set a photo of our choice or one of the many themes.

Specification –

Xaiomi Mi 11 is powered by the latest Qualcomm processor, Snapdragon 888 (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 680 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 680 & 4×1.80 GHz Kryo 680) with Adreno 660 GPU. There are three versions: 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, we do not know yet which of them will appear on our market. Unfortunately, we do not have a memory card slot, UFS memory is standard 3.1. The manufacturer did not allow us to perform synthetic tests, we will do them only when we receive a test sample. We also have to refrain from assessing GPS operation or the quality of calls. There is of course NFC in the phone, so there will be no hassle with contactless payments. In the first foreign reviews, there was information about the Snapdragon 888 heating up, but after taking photos and shooting short films, I did not feel the increased temperature of the device.

Mi 11 supports Bluetooth 5.2, A2DP, LE, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive. Location is determined with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS, QZSS, NavIC. The phone supports 5G networks.

How does the operating system work?

On board we find Android version 11 with the MIUI overlay. Everything is here just like in other devices Xiaomi. So we have a dark theme and a choice of themes, a choice of the level of haptic vibrations. We can connect two pairs of Bluetooth headphones to the device at the same time. It is also possible to use two accounts, eg Facebok, there is a gaming zone.

What photos does he take and what films does he record?

The camera set includes:

  • 108 MP, f / 1.9, 26mm, 1 / 1.33 “, 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS;
  • 13 MP, f / 2.4, 123˚ wide angle, 1 / 3.06 “, 1.12µm;
  • 5 MP, f / 2.4, macro, 1 / 5.0 “, 1.12µm;
  • selfie 20 MP, f / 2.2, 27mm, 1 / 3.4 “, 0.8μm.

We don’t have a Tele lens and the approximations are a cut from the main sensor. The maximum zoom is 30x. Three cameras (in addition to macro) have night mode available.

We will record the video in 8K and lower resolutions, apart from optical, there is also electronic image stabilization.

I took photos in a closed room and could compare them to Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. The quality of the photos taken from the main lens was similar, the screens of the phones looked better, more natural and detailed Mi 11. Natural blurring of the background with close shots or photos in portrait mode was great. The photos in a slightly darker room were also very good. The stabilization is excellent in movies, but we have to wait for the final evaluation until the full test. On paper, the lack of a tele lens is a bit striking.

Sample pictures:

How long does the battery last?

The cell has a capacity of 4600 mAh. We charge them with a 55W charger, according to the manufacturer’s assurances in 45 minutes from zero to one hundred percent. 50W wireless charging is also to be record-fast – thus 100 percent. we have to achieve in 53 minutes. Mi 11 it also supports 10W reverse charging. We will be able to check the exact working times on a single charge only during the full test. It is important that in the box with the phone in the Polish version you will find a powerful 55W charger.

Conclusion

Mi 11 makes an excellent first impression. From the contents of the box, through execution, action, and ending with the quality of the photos. The lack of certified waterproofness or a tele lens is a bit shocking, but now it’s all a matter of price. It will rather be high, the question is how much. If it is not cosmic, then Xiaomi may gently chew on Samsung on the premium shelf.
