The Samsung RF23R62E3S9 is a multi-door refrigerator that is as large as it is minimalist. This family model offers a well-optimized storage space as well as two cooling circuits to cool each compartment independently and more quickly.
Presentation
The RF23R62E3S9 refrigerator (€ 1,799 ) occupies the mid-range segment at Samsung. This family and multi-door model of 539 l is divided into two parts: the top cabinet is dedicated to the refrigeration part (416 l), the bottom drawers are devoted to freezing (123 l). Its 90 cm wide offer an optimal storage space for food. And to effectively cool the two large compartments, the RF23R62E3S9 integrates two cooling circuits.
Convenience of employment
Samsung has a habit of taking care of the finishes of its household appliances and this RF23R62E3S9 is no exception to the rule. The sleek aluminum design is impeccable, flawless.
As with all so-called multi-door models, the hinges are located in the center of the device. On this model, the handles are not integrated into the doors. Fortunately, they are not set with shiny stainless steel and therefore do not retain fingerprints. Better yet, they show no resistance when you open or close the doors, so much so that you even wonder if they are properly closed.
This refrigerator accommodates a dispenser of water and ice cubes (classic or crushed). It is however necessary to connect it to a water inlet.
On this model, the control panel is not displayed on the front; it is housed inside the refrigerator, on the right side of the refrigerator compartment. In general, it is preferred when the settings are accessible directly on the refrigerator door to avoid allowing hot air to enter the cavity. The control panel offers many settings, including the temperature (between 1 ° C and 7 ° C for the refrigerator and between -14 ° C and -24 ° C for the freezer, in steps of 1 ° C). It is also from this interface that you can access the quick freezing modes, vacation mode or even child mode (locking). The thermostat can be adjusted on condition that you press the keys properly, or even press them; the activation of these modes is therefore much less fluid thanRF56J9040SR , equipped with a sensitive surface.
Two cold circuits are nestled in the bowels of this RF23R62E3S9. They serve to cool the two compartments which are completely independent from each other more efficiently. This configuration allows in particular bacteria and odors not to move from one compartment to another. These circuits distribute ventilated cold, in other words No Frost, in the two cavities: this type of cold has the advantage of maintaining a stable and uniform temperature in the different compartments and of preventing the formation of frost. The other side of the coin is very dry cold which tends to dry out food. To respond to this phenomenon, Samsung has released its Twin Cooling Plus card, which maintains a humidity level of around 70% (depending on the type of product).
The refrigerator compartment has a very comfortable capacity of 416 l and 5 glass shelves (which do not have the honeycomb coating, which helps to retain humidity). Six door shelves allow you to store bottles, jars or cans, but surprisingly none of the floors is covered with a small hood that helps prevent the butter from absorbing odors. The RF23R62E3S9 houses three vegetable drawers, spread over 2 floors. In two of these zones, it is possible to define the humidity level. Surprisingly in view of the bulky dimensions of the product, it does not benefit from a storage zone in which the temperature would be kept just above 0 ° C, to preserve fragile foodstuffs such as meat or fish.
The bottom drawers (123 l) are dedicated to freezing. This compartment is organized on two floors.
This model finally incorporates an alarm that is activated when one of the refrigerator doors is opened for more than 2 min. However, nothing happens when the freezer drawers are open.
Refrigeration
The cooling performance is evaluated on two load levels (one large and one small), simulated by ice packs and not yoghurts and jars of mayonnaise. This mass is therefore much more painful to cool than any food, the goal here being to push the refrigerators to their limits.
The refrigeration time of this RF23R62E3S9 is within the average of the 90 cm devices tested in our lab. It takes an average of 9 h 25 min to cool the entire cavity, almost 1 h 30 min more than the excellent RF56J9040SR or the LG GSK6876SC . If the temperature inside drops just as quickly as that of its competitors in the same space, it is in the vegetable bins that the refrigeration time is longest.
Our temperature probes revealed a slightly lower temperature (up to 2 ° C lower) in the different compartments than that requested (5 ° C); this is even more true at the bottom of the refrigerator where the temperature has dropped to 2 ° C. For its part, cold stability is subject to oscillations of around 1.5 ° C or even 2 ° C. The RF56J9040SR had shown itself to be much more exemplary on this point, with reduced gaps.
Freezing
The freezer of this Samsung drops in temperature quite quickly since it took almost 10 hours to cool the cavity. This is a little longer than the LG InstaView’s time (8 hrs).
Here again, the temperatures recorded are significantly lower than expected: while we have set the freezer to -18 ° C, our probes reveal a temperature around -20 ° C, with a peak down to -22 ° C in the one of the different compartments; which will affect its power consumption.
Noise
When driven to its maximum power during refrigeration and freezing, this refrigerator emits 43 dB (A) at the maximum. This noise level is within the average for the refrigerators in our comparison. Once the temperature has stabilized, the sound level is 36 dB (A). This multi-door refrigerator can therefore be installed in an open kitchen, without disturbing.
Power consumption
The power consumption of this A + rated refrigerator is higher than that of the RF56J9040SR . Its annual consumption is 717 kWh, which represents an annual electricity cost of just under 110 €. This consumption is higher than that of the other multi-doors tested in our comparison.
On the refrigerator tests, we measure the electricity consumption (in kWh) throughout the procedure: a first time for the large load, a second for the small load, and a last time when the temperature has stabilized in the cavity. These measurements are used to calculate consumption over a week, which we then transpose to the year. As the device literage is not standardized (it varies from one model to another), we have chosen to calculate the energy requirement per 100 l.

Behind a seductive and well-groomed look, the Samsung RF23R62E3S9 blows hot and (very) cold. It offers really well optimized storage space and its price positioning can interest those looking for a family model without breaking the bank. The problem is that it tends to drop a little too much in temperature and consume a little more electricity than its rivals in our comparison, which cools our enthusiasm.
