inCharge 6, the versatile cable with Lightning, USB-C and more

We think the inCharge 6 is a very pleasant and versatile cable. Switching between connections is easy and the compact design makes it easy to hang.

The inCharge 6 is a very versatile cable with a large arsenal of connections. You only need one cable, for devices with Lightning, USB-C, USB-A and even micro-USB. Many combinations are possible with these cables and in this review you can read our experiences with the inCharge 6.

inCharge 6 review

The EU has been fighting for a universal charger for years , hoping to combat electronic litter. But to adjust the connection on the side of the smartphones, it is much cheaper to adjust something on the side of the charging cables. The inCharge 6 fits perfectly within this philosophy. The cable presents itself as the Swiss army knife of chargers, and for good reason. We have already tried the inCharge 6 and share our experiences in this review.

inCharge 6 in short

These are the main features of the inCharge 6 cable:

  • Two variants: inCharge 6 for your key ring and inCharge 6 Max as a 1.5m cable
  • Equipped with USB-C (2x), USB-A, Lightning and micro-USB
  • Can be used in all kinds of combinations
  • Supports both charging and syncing
  • Available in three colors: silver, space gray and gold
  • Price: € 14.95 for keychain version and € 19.95 for longer version (1.5m)

Apple currently uses two types of connections on its devices: USB-C on the MacBooks and the iPad Pro and Lightning on the iPhone , AirPods , Siri Remote and many more. If you are on the road a lot and have several devices with you, it can be inconvenient to carry several cables with you. In these cases, the inCharge 6 comes in very handy. The inCharge 6 has its origins on Indiegogo and has reached the most successful crowdfunding campaign in the charging cables category.https://www.youtube.com/embed/Kq10Sl9EtYU?feature=oembed

The ends of the inCharge 6 are magnetic, so you can easily attach them to each other. You can therefore easily hang the small version on your key ring. It is therefore very easy to pick up your key ring, because you only have to separate the two ends. So no hassle with key rings.

Each end of the inCharge 6 is reversible for a different connection. On one side is a USB-C and USB-A connection, while the other side has a USB-C and Lightning and micro-USB combination. The Lightning connection can therefore be used with Apple devices, but also as a micro-USB plug for, for example, your computer mouse or an Android device. Due to the type of connections, the following combinations are possible:

  1. USB-C to USB-A
  2. USB-C to USB-C
  3. Lightning to USB-A
  4. Lightning to USB-C
  5. micro USB to USB-A
  6. micro USB to USB-C

It is very nice that you always have such a versatile cable with you. It does not matter what kind of plug or device you have, because almost all combinations are possible. Only USB-A to USB-A and micro-USB to Lightning is not possible, but we do not think that is a lack. All relevant combinations are available for Apple users, which makes this a very pleasant cable. Keep in mind that it does not have an MFi-certified connection. We have not seen an error message when using an iPhone .

Switching between connections is easy, as it is just a matter of sliding it forward and turning it around. The turnaround can go either way. A disadvantage is that the connection that you do not use is sometimes in the way. This can be a bit inconvenient, especially if there is little space, for example if you are going to charge a mouse or if you hang a device on your MacBook .

Long version seems best

For our test, we tested two colors of the keychain version and one of the long 6 Max version. When connecting an Xtorm XB3 power bank with USB-C via a powerful USB-C adapter of a MacBook , charging only worked with the long version. The keychain version doesn’t seem to work properly in our case.

Another good thing to note is that the cable is braided and is therefore stronger than the standard cables made of other material. Although it is difficult to say how long the cable will last, the material used and the flat design make it a lot stronger. The inCharge 6 Max is also a lot easier to roll up due to the flat design. Finally, we notice that the space gray variant is a lot darker than the space gray of a MacBook. It therefore fits less well than we had hoped.

BENEFITS+

  • Four connections in one cable
  • Almost all combinations possible
  • Small version easy to attach to your key ring

CONS-

  • Only the long version works with powerful devices (such as a large power bank)

Conclusion inCharge 6 review

We think the inCharge 6 is a very pleasant and versatile cable. Switching between connections is easy and the compact design makes it easy to hang the small version on your key ring. Almost all combinations of contemporary connections are available in the most popular combinations. The only disadvantage is that the connection that you are not using is sometimes in the way and that the long version works better for products that require more power, such as a powerful power bank. Due to the small price difference of € 5, we recommend the long version the most.
