Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant, can now also respond to typed text messages. Amazon is currently rolling out this feature in the Alexa smart home application. The Ambient already discovered this new function. However, this function is not new: Google Asisstant has been offering this option for some time.
Typing instead of talking to Alexa
A voice assistant that cannot listen to speech, but to typed text messages. Amazon joins the list of voice assistants who can convert typed commands into action: whether it concerns operating smart home devices or requesting information.
There are various situations in which it can be useful to type instead of talking: think for example in the cinema (although this is less likely to be imagined during corona) or in public transport.
Release types with Alexa still in the dark
When we will soon be able to put the Amazon smart speaker or smart display aside for typed commands via our smartphone, the question remains. It seems Amazon is testing with a small selection of users.
