The packaging corresponds to the size of the speaker and is not unnecessarily oversized . The box is black and has the typical imprints of the most important facts about the device. Further inside, all accessories and the main unit are safely and neatly stowed away . The scope of delivery includes the proprietary power supply unit, an AUX cable, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a high-quality shoulder strap, a UK plug adapter and of course the operating instructions.
Dockin D Fine + 2: First impression and feel of speakers and accessories
The shoulder strap is an extraordinary accessory for a loudspeaker and so stands out anyway. However, the quality is just as excellent. The carabiners are massive and look very robust. The belt is infinitely adjustable and can adapt to many carriers and circumstances. With a weight of 2.25 kilos , the loudspeaker is not a flyweight, but it does not feel bulky either, but really high quality. The underside has two rubber feet. So the Dockin D Fine + 2 can stand securely on the desired surface. The loudspeaker and the counterpart are not scratched and the material is protected.
One point for sustainability: replaceable battery
The compartment for the battery is also on the lower side. For reasons of sustainability, it can be easily changed at home. With only six small screws you can get to the heart, which will surely survive a few years with the first battery. The top is less plain and has a few buttons. On the left and right on the outside are the counterparts for the practical shoulder strap. These were integrated well and not disturbing . The typical buttons for operating the loudspeaker can be found in the middle . Four round rubberized buttons are used to switch on / off, to establish the Bluetooth connection and to regulate the volume.
An elongated button above it is used for pairing for stereo mode with multiple speakers. The left of the three LEDs indicates a successful Bluetooth pairing. The middle lamp shows the current sound mode, which can be selected by pressing the volume and volume buttons simultaneously. If the LED is off, the Dockin D Fine + 2 is in balanced mode, the clean mode is activated when it lights up green and the bass mode is shown in red. There is more detailed information on the sound pattern later in the text. There is also a subtle NFC logo on top, which signals the possibility of coupling with appropriately compatible smartphones .
Various connections are integrated on the back, which are well hidden by a small flap and protected from water and dust . The charging connection is on the left, an AUX input in the middle and a USB-A port on the right for using the speaker as a power bank. With a capacity of almost 10,000 mAh , it can provide the smartphone with the necessary power in an emergency. Therefore, the corresponding cable with USB-A to USB-C is also included in the scope of delivery. The connections are also well made and are well protected. Nothing stands in the way of use in damp or dusty outdoor areas.
Possible stereo mode for room-filling sound
In order to couple another loudspeaker, all that is necessary is to press the appropriate button for pairing mode. In general, the Dockin D Fine + 2 is easy to operate, self-explanatory and does not need an app connection. This is exactly what we really appreciate about this device. But now we come to the sound quality, which is of course the focus of such a loudspeaker. First of all: the 50 watts don’t promise too much. Two integrated tweeters and two bass-midrange speakers ensure the finely tuned sound of the Dockin D Fine + 2. Two passive bass radiators give the sound the necessary oomph, if wanted. Due to the different modes, there should be something for every musical taste.
We would like to go into more detail about the three modes, which are so finely tuned that they would not need any further settings by any app anyway . The balanced mode promises a balanced sound, which also comes across as great. This standard mode is ideal for indoor use and less demanding pieces of music. The clean mode convinces with voice-heavy songs with its very clear and unexcited sound. Listening to podcasts is also great in this setting. The bass mode is then perfect for prominent low tones, which are otherwise quickly lost in the outdoor area.
The volume can be finely regulated and yet turned up well. No distortion of sounds and voices is noticeable even when playing music at a really loud volume . We cannot highlight or praise any particular genre from the test, because every piece really sounds very good. The clean mode is an extraordinary setting that we really liked with audio books. In our opinion, the Dockin D Fine + 2 can really be heard and passed the test without any complaints .
Positive result from the test for the Dockin D Fine + 2
The shoulder strap is particularly suitable for outdoor use. Even when summer is over, the loudspeaker can easily be carried to the campfire or the cozy garden shed in the cold season. Overall, we are more than satisfied with the workmanship of the entire device. In our opinion, the weight is not a nuisance, but rather shows the quality . Together with the haptics, the result is simply a round and coherent image of the Dockin D Fine + 2. Inside, however, the loudspeaker can develop its full effect better. Bass mode is our favorite for entertaining music.
We also find the accessories to be of high quality . The charging cable is long enough and does not depend too much on a socket to be used at the same time. As a disadvantage, we see the missed opportunity for a USB-C standard. This applies to charging the speaker as well as connecting to the power bank function. Many manufacturers have made the leap here and turned to the new and above all better standard. Nevertheless, the loudspeaker can be recommended without restrictions. For a purchase price of 199 euros you get a solid and very good sounding device of impeccable quality .
